Manifesto

Food should travel less and mean more.

Hands holding a basket of leafy greens
A producer in Pett Level — September.

Somewhere along the way we stopped knowing who grew our food. Tomatoes started arriving in plastic, eggs from places no one's ever been, bread from factories that haven't met a baker. The big shops got bigger. The small ones disappeared.

We think there's a better way — and it isn't complicated. There are people growing, raising, baking and brewing brilliant things within a few miles of your front door. frommby is the shortest line between them and you.

Better food. Fairer money. A neighbourhood that knows itself again.

For producers

Make a living,
not a margin.

The big shops squeeze. frommby keeps it simple: you set the price, you tell the story, and almost every penny of every sale goes back into your hands.

  • Keep the lion's share of every sale
  • List in minutes — your stall, your rules
  • Reach the neighbours who actually want what you make

The Buy Back Fund

Every basket feeds two neighbourhoods.

10% of every fee we take is set aside, automatically, and spent on stock that would otherwise have gone to waste — bought from the producers who grew it, given free to the community fridges, food banks and pantries down the road.

A way of eating

Seasonal, not stocked.

What's on frommby this week is what's actually ready this week — from gluts of plums in August to the first Cornish mackerel of spring.

A note from the founder

“I live in the Sussex countryside, next to a local farm and producer, with my wife and our little girl. We're surrounded by people making extraordinary things — and yet we still ended up doing most of our shopping in a big shed off the A21. frommby is my attempt to fix that, for us, and for everyone else who'd rather buy from someone with a name.”

— Daniel Gibbs, East Sussex

Frequently asked

Anything to know before you start?

What is frommby?
frommby is an online marketplace that connects you with real local food producers — farmers, growers, bakers, brewers, cheesemakers and fishermen — within a sensible distance of your postcode. The aim is simple: better food, fairer money, a neighbourhood that knows itself again.
How does frommby work?
Drop in your UK postcode and we'll show you the producers near you. Add things from multiple producers to one basket, check out in a single step, and we'll show you exactly where to pick each order up. No middleman, no warehouses, no mystery food miles.
Where does frommby operate?
frommby is rolling out one neighbourhood at a time, starting in East Sussex (Rye, Camber, Winchelsea, Hastings and the surrounding area). Join the waitlist and we'll let you know when we're live near you.
Can I sell on frommby as a producer?
Yes — if you make, grow, bake, brew or rear something good and you're within our active area, we'd love to hear from you. Apply via the producer portal and we'll review and get back to you within a few days.
How do I pay and pick up my order?
Today, you settle up with each producer at pickup — your order confirmation shows you exactly where to collect from. Online payments via Stripe are coming next. Delivery is something we're planning for the future; for now, pickup keeps everything direct.
Who is behind frommby?
frommby is built by Gamma Epsilon Ltd, a company registered in England & Wales (no. 16534367), based at Coach House, Tibbs Farm, Udimore Road, Udimore, Rye, East Sussex TN31 6AR. Founded by Daniel Gibbs.
